Ksar Haddada

Ksar Haddada is a ksar in southern Tunisia, a fortified village of the desert south, which our sheets name among the ksour used for filming Star Wars scenes. The eleven and twelve day journeys visit the ksour after Matmata, before driving to the coast and crossing to Djerba.

Visiting Ksar Haddada

The sheets name Ksar Haddada in a parenthesis: some of the ksour in the region were used for filming Star Wars scenes, and Ksar Haddada is the one they give. A ksar is a traditional fortified village of the desert, built with fortified walls, narrow winding streets and closely packed houses, and the sheets use ksour as the term for the distinct architecture of this region.

The ksour of southern Tunisia, with the troglodyte habitat, are on Tunisia's Tentative List for World Heritage status, added in 2020. None is inscribed. On the eleven and twelve day journeys the visit comes after Matmata and Ksar Metameur, before the drive to the coast and the Roman bridge to Djerba.
