Douiret
Douiret is an abandoned Berber village on a hillside south of Tataouine, below a ridge of pale rock. The rooms were dug into the slope and fronted with stone, and most of them stand empty now, with a white mosque near the foot of the old village and a newer settlement on the plain.

Visiting Douiret
Douiret was one of the largest of the hill villages, and the line of it runs a long way along the slope: hundreds of rooms cut back into the rock, with vaulted stone fronts built out from them, and the ruin of a granary on the ridge above.
Most of the people moved down to the new village on the flat ground, and the old one has been left to the weather, which is why it is quiet. A few houses have been repaired, and a white mosque at the foot of the slope is still kept. Douiret, Chenini and Ksar Ouled Soltane make one day together from Tataouine.
